Unit X was a group project where we collaborated with Alexander McQueen. The goal, to create a full look using unconventional materials inspired by McQueen's previous work. To help build the connection between our and McQueen's work we were given a list of initial themes to help develop our concept. Within our group we explored rituals and traditions. From this we began to look at the idea of traditional weddings and how we could contradict the traditional view. In doing so we introduced the idea of women's oppression and how to break free from this, leading to the idea of hypersexuality. for our materials we used wire, peal beads, clear moveable plastic sheets and food packaging. The sheerness of the plastic helped convey the message of sexualising women which didn't bide by the norms and values of traditional women. We were also given the opportunity to collaborate with the FAD students for our photoshoot and exhibition of the final outcome. The photoshoot was extremely successful and as a whole group we were able to capture the character we created through the final photographs.
